Caol Uno vs. Andre Dida (155lb. tournament semifinal)
Great fight. Andre Dida showed great power. He drops Caol Uno several times with hooks and knees. Andre Dida's ground defense was good enough to keep him out of submissions. Dida wins by decision.
The only issue I have with this bout was the several stoppages in the middle of action by the ref to wipe Uno's face and to check the cut on his face. Every time the ref did this it killed Dida's momentum and allowed Coal Uno to recover. These doctor breaks also went too long. They had enough time to show Uno getting checked and then showing highlights. I'm not sure if it was a little hometown favoritism but I'm sure Dida would of been able to finish Uno it it wasen't for this.
Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti vs. Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro (155lb. tournament semifinal)
JZ total domination of Shoalin. Not sure if it was a trip or if Shoalin somehow loss his balance but he drops to the mat. JZ follows up with brutal ground-N-pound. Vitor turtles up in the fetal position and the ref stops it after many shots to the head.
I was very diasppointed with Shoalin. I thought this would be a back forth fight but Calvancanti DESTROYS Ribeiro. Also suprised no jiu-jitsu was utlized with both being well known ground specialists.
Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti vs. Andre Dida (155lb. tournament final)
This fight wasn't as entertaning as the semifinal matches but had a great finish. They start with a great stare down. Calvancanti gets a takedown and has top control for most of the fight. Landed some punches from Dida's guard. JZ tries for mount, still in Dida's half guard. Uses his foot to pry his other foot free and gets side mount. From there he throws a punch when Dida covers up JZ gets full mount. Jz's mount is too high and Dida tries to buck and roll to reverse. As soon as JZ feels Dida reversing he holds on to an arm and as Dida is flipping over lands himself into an armbar. Game Over. Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti is the 155 lb. tournament winner.
